FLORIDA
ROSIE is one of the "Mississippi Eight" rescued in March, 2010, after living unattended for a long period of time, running free in a wooded, tick infested property. All of these dogs were under-socialized, heartworm positive, and had horrible coat/skin problems. UPDATE March, 2011 - Rosie says...."just look at me now!" Take a look at that awful "before" picture...what a difference a year makes! We never give up on these guys....it just takes dedicated TLC and the dollars that have been so generously donated for the MS-8. Rosie is still looking for that perfect home. She completed her heartworm treatment last summer and was spayed in August. She has no ongoing medical problems and now has a negative heartworm status. Her bloodwork report from March, 2011 was excellent and her thyroid level is good. We are so very pleased with her progress! She had a dental when she was spayed. She has no front teeth, top or bottom, and all four canine teeth are worn down to just nubs. They are sound at the present time, but they will need to be watched in the future for possible root abscess. The rest of her teeth are ok. Rosie is still frightened of people, but does her best to be brave. She's one of those "love the one you're with" dogs. She'd do best in a home with a single person. She's good with other dogs, although she can be a little food and toy possessive with other females. We're requiring a fenced yard for her...she loves to go out and run and chase squirrels and butterflies. Rosie has a high prey drive so may not do very well with cats in the house, and there are no cats here to test her with. She does very well riding in the car, and copes very well with all that's done to her at a vet's office. She's housebroken, and currently has a doggie door...she takes herself in and out. How old...you ask? She has a little bit of gray on her face...she could be 8 or 9 years old. Rosie is in foster care with Bonnie Foster in central Florida, halfway between Orlando and Ocala. ROSIE #2 was rescued in May, 2011. She is a family member of the "Mississippi Eight" which now brings the total number of dogs rescued from that situation to ten. This Rosie had been living with the deceased breeder's father who is now in a nursing home. She had better care than the others, but was still living outside. She is heartworm negative and was kept current on vaccinations. She presently has some hair loss due to fleas and a slightly low thyroid...now on inexpensive daily medication...and parasite free.

Hi...my name is Rosie and I am looking for a home with someone that will love me and appreciate all my kisses and tailwags that I so willingly give. I’ve spent most of my life on a tie-out, and let me tell you, it’s no fun. My foster mom Melanie says I deserve a home where I can spend those hot summer days in a cool house, and those cold winter days in a warm house, with a family, and have a big fenced yard to enjoy. I do love to go on walks…foster mom says I don’t realize how strong I am...she has to use a harness because I do tend to pull. I just get so enthusiastic 'cause you see, it had been years since anyone took me for walks and I was just on that tie out all the time. So, I am curious and want to chase everything – birds, squirrels, rabbits. But especially cats…..yep, I'm really obsessive about catching those cats, so I will have to find a family that doesn’t have any. I get along great with my two Irish Setter foster brothers and love to play with them. But I haven't been very nice to Peaches, the spayed female Cocker who lives here too. So, my new home probably shouldn't have any female dogs. I’m a nice size, and even though I have a few places on me where my coat is thin, it’s filling in now that I am flea free. Foster mom tells me every day how pretty I am. She says I have very pretty eyes and that my coat is very dark and shiny and when it fills in I’m going to be even more beautiful! She says I am a princess so I hope that’s a good thing! I don't care about challenging the 5' fence here, and I have been very good with my housetraining with no accidents. I love people, I love attention and to be brushed, I love car rides, and I especially love my recliner! I’m waiting patiently for my new special family to love and plant all those kisses on. My birthdate is April 23, 2002. Rosie is in foster care in Meridian, MS. Contact Bonnie at 352-821-2155 or by email MegOwnsMe@aol.com

MISTY
I'm Misty, but I prefer to be called "Her Royal Highness".  My birthday is March 04, 2001 and I have an impressive pedigree.  I'm up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and on prevention, and crate- and house-trained.  And my feathers are finally starting to grow out!  When the rescue people found out I had diabetes, they wanted the best for me because I'm such a special girl, so I got to go on a plane ride from Oklahoma to reach my foster home near Raleigh.  Guess what! My cousin Danny lives there, too!  There are benefits - and disadvantages - of living with a vet when you have a medical challenge (they can be so-o-o strict).  I'm on a restricted diet (Prescription w/d) and receive insulin injections twice-a-day.  Foster mom also checks my blood glucose levels - yep, I have my own special doggy glucose meter.  Anyway, my diabetes is under control, my weight is stable (when I was diagnosed, I weighed 42 pounds - I now weigh a svelte 63) and I'm looking for a fur-ever home.  I'm a sweet girl, and my favorite thing is to snuggle with foster mom on the couch and have all the other dogs pay homage (Danny just glares - I think he's jealous).  I'm a talker and will let you know if you're not paying enough attention to me.  I also like to give kisses to show my appreciation.  I enjoy going to the doggy supermarket - the people there tell me how wonderful and gorgeous I am.  And, of course, I get lots of petting.  Foster mom says my new home should not have kitties because I'm cat aggressive - but other dogs are OK.   I prefer to be with people, but I need a fenced yard to play and romp in.  My new family needs to give me my insulin and restricted diet, and take me to the vet regularly to assess how my blood glucose control is doing.  Are you the family for me??   Contact Bonnie at  MegOwnsMe@aol.com  or by phone at  352-821-2155
TENNESSEE

Tracey is a charming female Irish Setter aged 5-6 years old.  She is good with other dogs, cats, and children, however she does enjoying being the "boss".  She is quick to learn, clever, and very obedient.  She has wonderful house manners and is a pleasure to have around.  She does like to take every step her human does, therefore she will make a devoted companion. She loves to go for walks and rides very well in the car. She came into rescue heartworm positive and will undergo treatment in November, after which she will be ready for placement.  She is also spayed, microchipped and up to date on all vaccinations.  Tracey is in foster care near Nashville, TN.  Contact Gina at  gina@coulter.uk.com

Texas
Dexter
: Senior Male
.

Dexter’s family had to give him up due to the strains of a divorce.

Dexter was 10 in June, 2011

Dexter is offered for adoption by Irish Setter Rescue of North Texas. Potential adopters should be willing to meet him in person prior to adoption. Contact Glenna O'Dell
Dexter is very personable and tremendously sweet and loving.  He is enthusiastic about play and is very playful with his fellow foster buddies.  He loves to swim and doze in front of the fire.  He is a smart boy who can sit, shake, sing, and will play dead if you shoot him. He is not necessarily a soft spoken dog, but he is working in effort to communicate his point. He loves his toys, so much in fact, that he tries to take them everywhere he goes including outside. He is ever hopeful for a good game that he preparedly carries his toys with him.  His timing is not always suitable, but he is willing to work with you on when to play. He never misses a chance to be outdoors. Over all, Dexter would be a great addition to any family, and don’t let his age fool you, he can be one Fun Loving Dog. He certainly deserves a great forever home for the time he
has remaining.  Click here to see more about Dexter.

Sugar: Senior Female

Sugar is offered for adoption by Irish Setter Rescue of North Texas. Potential adopters should be willing to meet him in person prior to adoption. Contact Glenna O'Dell

Hello, my name is Sugar. At least that is what it is now, I don't remember my old name, nor do I want to. After being lost and hungry for a long time I ended up in Rescue in October 2009. Little did I know how much my luck had changed. No more fleas, missed meals and outside in bad weather, no sir-ee. I have my own chair, my own bed, my own food bowl, my own toys and my own collar. Life is good! I say "Thank you" everyday and mind my manners so my foster mom will continue to be my friend. She tells me I am a cute little girl and loves it when I wiggle and bounce. I try to be helpful by keeping stray birds, rabbits, squirrels out of her yard, and I keep a steady eye on the barn cats so they don't invade our space. I really like my new canine friends and Mom brings in others of all sizes now and then, so far I haven't met a one that I didn't like just fine. I may be white in the face, but I have lots of energy and really like it when we go for a walk, or better yet, when Mom takes us on her bike rides. I have an easy coat to care for, not too long and am a petite 46lbs. I NEVER make a mess in the house and stay completely away from things that are not mine. I am a little more mature than some of the youngsters, but I will show you everyday how much I love you and how grateful I am to have a home of my very own. (Sugar was found lost in a Wal-Mart parking lot and no one would claim this sweet girl. She certainly deserves a soft couch and plenty of love for the years that she has left. She will return unconditional love.)  Click here to see more about Sugar.

Riley was placed by ISRNTX about 5 years ago and has enjoyed the company of a wonderful family. Alas, ill health in the family has made it impossible for them to keep Riley. He is a little guy with a very, very dark coat. Riley and has exceptional manners. He roos to talk and he loves to play.  Riley is neutered, up-to-date with routine shots, and is house trained. Rosie belonged to an elderly gentleman that had to go to a nursing home, then passed away.  She is in Foster care now but needs a "furever home" WITHOUT cats. She’s great around children, but can be a little dominating over other dogs, - could be her size – but without checking her around other females , a home with another Male dog and no cats would be perfect – or she can be an only dog – she turned 9 in April – but boy is she a young 9!  She stayed on a tie out all her life but she needs an inside home now with lots of love- she loves attention!  If you are interested in adopting Rosie, please contact the ISC Houston Rescue Committee Chairman

Brownie and Charlie are the newest ISC of Houston rescues.  Both have outstanding personalities and love to be with people.  They are well behaved but need a home with a good fence. They are fantastic about bathing and  grooming. These dogs are patient and great, so fun to have! They seem to have been worked with and groomed at some point, and will make an easy transition to a home that understands the basic rules for dogs. They both sit on command and both know their names, but in true Irish attitude, only listen when a treat is involved! They have tried the fence already, and it looks like they got out by going over wherever they were.
They are good house dogs and they were good travelers. They both need leash training.  Both are neutered, micro chipped, up to date on all
shots.  They are about 2 years old. If you are interested in adopting one or both of these boys,
please contact the ISC Houston Rescue Committee Chairman.  Brownie is pictured first, and Charlie below.
